Cheap Medical Insurance In New York -- Steps To Take If You Want It

By: Ceasa Cissor

What can you do to pay relatively little for sufficient New York medical insurance? If you must get big discounts, then you must NOT miss certain things. I'll share some of them here...
1. There are popular name brands in the pharmaceutical industry. Drugs that have such brand names cost a lot more than equally-effective drugs with less brand recognition and so raise your rate. For those who don't know, the law demands that every drug must consist of the same active ingredients irrespective of if they are brand name or generic. Where they are free to have any variation is in the inactive ingredients.
The truth then is that you only spend more when you use an established brand name drug and do NOT enjoy anything more in value. Discuss with your doctor about this.
2. You'll get lower premiums if you make your payments by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). This authorizes an insurance company to automatically withdraw your premiums from your account when due. This reduces administrative overheads like those involved in sending payment notices. This is why this attracts lower rates.
3. For those who have a health condition that makes it difficult or too expensive for them to get private individual health insurance coverage, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) insurance should offer a cheaper option.
4. You can make huge savings on health insurance in some states if you are a home business owner. This is because home based businesses get the same cheap rates that insurers extend to their bigger counterparts.
In several states a home business qualifies for a group rate provided it has one employee.
The good part is that the member of staff could be your spouse or your older child who works with you. The good thing is that such a worker mustn't work full time to qualify you.
This will give your reasonable savings because group rates are usually cheaper than individual rates.
To find out if you qualify or even if your state has such offer, call your state's department of insurance, department of financial services or their equivalent.
5. There are situations for which you really should not see a doctor. Clear instances are viral infections like flu for which your doctor can't help. Using some home remedies will actually help in such conditions. It is generally known that doctors cannot do you much good if you have a viral infection.
So is it wise to spend close to $100 to see a doctor when you already know that your situation would not be helped much? I also think there are little home incidents that your first aid box will take good care of.
It is better to know how to handle simple home incidents especially if you have children. Knowing a few little things and having a well-stocked first aid box will help you save a lot on avoidable visits to a doctor.
Nevertheless, if you do not know what to do, go on and see a doctor. And, for people who have some experience with first aid, remember your boundaries. The law forbids you to do certain things if you're not a certified medical doctor. Having the right balance is important in this and other matters. If you do this right you will pay less in health insurance and also not endanger lives.
6. Make out some time to visit a minimum of 5 insurance quotes sites that return quotes on health insurance policies. Doing this should require around 25 minutes.
While you visit each quotes site, ensure you input the same information. Doing otherwise will return misleading results. After you've received your health insurance quotes, compare them to determine which serves your interest best in price/value.
