Prepaid Legal Services-Buy The Extinguisher Before the Fire?

By: Tobias Florian

In a life that seems to throw all types of obstacles a person's way, one often wonders if there is a way to circumvent these things from having such adverse affects on what is considered normal for us.

From medical complications we want help on our side, we want simliar help for our vehicles and our places of residence. So when it comes to guarding our identity and our right to be protected legally, why doesn't that doesn't cause us to take immediate action.

This way of thinking is what cause me to investigate a few prepaid legal services organizations. And as I'm looking around at these different prepaid legal providers, I thinking that this may be something that could benefit only a select few of people who have to deal with legal situations.

I ponder on if a prepaid legal serivce plan is something people need to have or is it a product that takes advantage of people's fear and anxiety about legal matters.

I admit that I did need an attorney when my pops passed away to try to figure out how to bring closure to his estate and divide up a little money.

Naturally we hit a roadblock because the old timer didn't really get around to making regular revisions to his last will and testament. I've read that prepaid legal providers offer last will and testament preparation with complimentary updates annually.

Honestly, having a last will and testament drawn up is the furthest thought from my mind at any given time. I probably should get one prepared just in case because it's been reported that an astonishing seventy percent of people will pass away without leaving a will behind.

And in contacting several prepaid legal companies they said that their first mission is to help you devise a will as soon as you arm yourself with prepaid legal protection.

The interpretation I'm getting from different prepaid legal sources is that they want to be the voice of people who might have legal troubles but can't have lawyers on retainer. Furthermore, I would probably be the equivalent to retaining a whole firm to use at your discretion.

So if I had to get a will done, handle a crooked mechanic or contractor, or enforce a warranty a prepaid legal plan would allow me to do these things simultaneously. I could just unleash my law firm who are supposedly there for me.

Maybe if I had a boatload of legal problems ready to chew me up this would be really advantageous to me, but it's not right now. I could see the will prep as something my spouse would bug me about. But what if a person really has nothing to leave behind?

Prepaid legal protection to me is one of those things that you probably want to get but it doesn't seem advantageous to get until some legal stuff rears its ugly head in your life. Kind of like going to the store the buy the fire extinguisher after the fire is already ablaze at your home.
